Late December Oscar Predictions

It’s the most wonderful time of the year! The inter-nominations period, the most dramatic part of the race. The Critics Choice Awards, Golden Globes and SAG awards have all announced their nominees for the Best of 2017. Contenders we thought were locks are suddenly on the outside, while long forgotten performances make a sudden reappearance. Voting to determine who will be nominated for an Oscar begin in just a week. That means right now is when the nominees are likely to make a final strike with the hopes of scoring a nomination. Lady Bird and Get Out seem to have gotten blasted into the winner’s territory and look to be locking in on the golden knight. The 60th Grammy Awards will be held earlier than usually, on January 28, to avoid conflict with the Super Bowl and the Winter Olympics. This year’s Grammy’s will also be moving back to New York for the first time in 15 years.

Early October Oscar Predictions

Now that it is October, autumn is here and thus the beginning of the minor film festivals, which have the final say on who will be nominated for an Oscar. Within the next month or so, the Academy will be releasing the individual submission lists for various categories such as Foreign Language Film, Best Original Song and Animated Feature Film. Once these lists are out, we’ll have a better idea about who will actually eligible in every category. It was at this point last year when Kubo and the Two Strings was included on the list of eligible films for for Best Visual Effects, which led to it being one of 5 nominees in that category.
